About us...
Transition to Employee Ownership 2024
In 2024, we made one of the most important decisions in our company’s history: we transitioned Leaf to 100% employee ownership through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). This marked a major milestone in our journey and made us the first artificial plant company in the UK to adopt this model. By establishing Leaf Design Employee Ownership Trustees Limited, we ensured that the business is now owned on behalf of the people who help run and grow it every day.
This decision was rooted in long-term thinking. Over the years, we were approached multiple times with invitations to sell the company to larger organisations. While those conversations reflected the strength and reputation we had built, selling to an external buyer was never our preferred outcome. Leaf has always been more than a balance sheet — it represents years of commitment, hard work and shared effort from a dedicated team. Rather than selling to a corporation or private equity group, we wanted to secure the long-term future of the company for the people who helped build it.
Choosing employee ownership felt more fair, more ethical and more aligned with our values.
We believe that those who contribute to a company’s success should share in it.
Moving to an Employee Ownership Trust ensures that our team now has a meaningful stake in the future of Leaf. The trust structure safeguards the company’s independence while allowing profits to be reinvested into the business and shared with employees. It creates stability, continuity and a framework that prioritises sustainable growth over short-term gain.
Employee ownership also reflects how we have always operated. Our growth has been built on teamwork, shared responsibility and a collective focus on quality. By formalising that culture through ownership, we have strengthened it. Every employee now plays a role not just in the day-to-day running of the business, but in shaping its long-term direction. It encourages engagement, accountability and pride in what we create together.
This transition complements the other milestones in our recent journey, including our move into a custom-built warehouse facility in Louth in 2022. That expansion gave us greater capacity, improved logistics and stronger operational control. Now, with employee ownership in place, we have paired infrastructure with a structure designed to protect the company’s independence and long-term vision.
For our customers and partners, our commitment remains the same: realistic design, reliable service and fair pricing. What has changed is that the people behind those promises now share directly in the success of the business. That alignment strengthens everything we do.
Employee ownership was not simply a financial decision. It was a statement about who we are and how we want to grow. We chose a model that secures the future of Leaf for our team, supports sustainable development and ensures that the company remains rooted in the values on which it was built. As we continue to grow, we do so together — with shared purpose, shared responsibility and shared success. Press coverage on our transition can be viewed here.
Leaf Community
In addition to our commitments to our team and customers, our local community is very important to us. We support a number of local schools, charities and not-for-profit organisations. We also offer tours and talks to local community groups (for example, Young Farmers) some of which can be found on our Facebook pages and recent news.
We also have a newly developed showroom so if you are unsure about which plant you would like best we would always recommend visiting our showroom first to see the plants in person and chat to one of our team.
