Artificial orchids: potted, stems and how to choose
Choose an artificial orchid by where it will stand: a 43–70cm potted orchid suits a desk, table or reception counter, while our 100–150cm orchids are floor-standing plants for hallways, receptions and large rooms. Then think about how close people will get, because that decides whether real-touch flowers are worth choosing. All of our orchids are for indoor use, and the table below compares every one, with live prices and stock.
Potted orchids or orchid stems?
A potted orchid arrives arranged and ready to display. The flowers, leaves and base are already in place, so you only need to adjust the stems. Every product in our orchid collection is a potted orchid. Some come in a plain plastic starter pot to stand inside a planter of your choice, and others come in their own decorative pot or planter.
Orchid stems are sold loose for you to arrange in a vase, on their own or with other flowers. We sell two: a 100cm phalaenopsis stem with seven flowers, sold in packs of six, and an 80cm mini orchid stem with ten flowers. Both are wired, so you can bend them, and you can cut them shorter with wire cutters. You'll find them with our other single flower stems, and our guide to arranging artificial flowers explains how many stems a vase needs.
Choose a potted orchid for a finished look with no arranging. Choose stems if you already have a vase you like, or if you want orchids mixed with foliage and other flowers.
Phalaenopsis and cymbidium: the varieties we stock
Real orchids come in thousands of forms, but a handful are sold as houseplants. We stock artificial versions of two of them. We don't currently sell dendrobium orchids.
Phalaenopsis (moth orchid)
Phalaenopsis is the orchid most people picture: broad, flat, rounded flowers along an arching stem, above a few wide leaves at the base. Our Luxury triple-stem orchids (60cm and 65cm) are modelled on phalaenopsis, as are our 50cm phalaenopsis orchids in silver and gold pots and our 100cm orchid stems. The triple-stem orchids carry between 14 and 30 flowers, depending on the design.
Cymbidium
Cymbidium orchids grow upright spikes of many smaller, waxy flowers, with long, narrow, strap-like leaves. They look taller and more structured than a phalaenopsis. Our 100cm cymbidium has been one of our best sellers in 2026. Its stems are wired, and it arrives in a plain plastic pot, ready to stand inside a planter.
Other orchid shapes
Our other orchids aren't named by variety, so check the photos for the flower shape. The fullest is the 85cm Deluxe Bush Orchid, which has 56 dark pink flowers and spreads to about 70cm as arranged in our photos.
Compare every orchid
Sort by height or price, or show only orchids in stock. Heights and spreads are as arranged in our photos.
Live prices and stock. Heights are overall, from the bottom of the pot (or of the stem, for stem flowers and ferns) to the top of the leaves. Spreads are as arranged in our photos, and wired stems can be shaped wider or narrower.
Choosing the right size
- 43–54cm: desks, bedside tables and bathroom shelves. These come in their own silver, gold, ceramic or glass pots, so they don't need a planter.
- 60–70cm: dining tables, sideboards and reception desks. Choose a 60cm orchid that comes in a ceramic planter (gold, black or marble-effect), or a Luxury triple-stem orchid to stand in a planter of your own.
- 85–110cm: a low floor display, beside a sofa or on a wide sideboard. This group includes the Deluxe Bush Orchid, the 100cm cymbidium and our 110cm real-touch orchids.
- 150cm: floor-standing orchids for hallways, receptions and large rooms. The 150cm pink orchid display comes fixed in a cement planter with decorative pebbles. The 150cm giant orchids come in a starter pot to stand in a planter.
For an orchid in a starter pot, choose a planter whose opening is a few centimetres wider than the pot. Our 110cm and 150cm real-touch orchids arrive in a 27cm pot, so they need a large floor planter. Our planter size guide explains how to get the fit right.
Real-touch, PVC and synthetic flowers
Orchid flowers are made from different materials, and each product description says which one an orchid uses.
- Real-touch: petals made to feel like a living orchid's, not just look like one. Our 110cm orchids have 41 real-touch flowers and our 150cm giant orchids have 189. Our 46–54cm orchids in silver and gold pots have real-touch flowers and leaves, and the 70cm light pink orchid in a black ceramic planter has real-touch flowers.
- PVC: a moulded plastic that feels firmer than real-touch. The 60cm orchids in ceramic planters and the 50cm orchid in a glass planter have PVC flowers.
- Synthetic: the 43cm and 50cm orchids in ceramic planters have synthetic flowers and wired plastic leaves.
Real-touch matters most where people can touch the flowers or look at them closely, such as on a reception desk, a dining table or a bathroom shelf. From across a room, the shape of the stems and the way the plant is arranged matter more than the petal material. Our guide to the most realistic artificial plants covers what to look for in any plant.
Making an orchid look real
Hide the base
Real orchids are usually potted in bark, and a bare plastic pot is the quickest giveaway. Several of our orchids arrive with the base already finished. The 46–54cm orchids have a glued gravel base, the 43cm and 50cm ceramic orchids have imitation soil, and some of the Luxury triple-stem orchids have extra greenery planted around the base. For an orchid in a plain starter pot, stand it in a planter and cover the top with moss or bark.
Shape the stems
Most of our orchids have wired stems. A real phalaenopsis stem rises fairly straight from the leaves and then arches over near the flowers, so bend the top part into a gentle curve rather than a sharp angle. Turn the flowers so they face outwards in slightly different directions, as they would on a living plant. Growers often support real orchids with a thin cane and small clips, and adding one to a tall stem looks natural.
Check the leaves
Real orchid leaves are thick, with a soft sheen, and they sit low around the base. Spread them out so they don't all point upwards, and keep the orchid out of harsh spotlighting, which exaggerates any shine.
Where artificial orchids work
Artificial orchids suit places where a real orchid would struggle or need too much care, such as bathrooms and hallways with little daylight.
- Homes: a small orchid on a bedside table or bathroom shelf, or a pair on a sideboard.
- Receptions, salons and spas: a 60–70cm orchid on the desk, or a 110cm or 150cm orchid either side of the entrance.
- Restaurants and hotels: small orchids along a bar or on tables. See more plants for restaurants.
Artificial orchids are pet-safe (non-toxic) and allergy-friendly, as they have no pollen. None of our orchids are supplied as fire-retardant grade. For settings where the fire performance of furnishings matters, see our guide to fire-retardant artificial plants.
Can artificial orchids go outside?
None of our orchids are UV-stabilised, so they are made for indoor use or a covered spot out of direct sun. Strong sunlight gradually fades flowers that aren't UV-stabilised, and that includes sun through glass on a sunny windowsill or in a conservatory. For a sunny patio or doorway, choose from our UV-stabilised outdoor plants instead. They are guaranteed against fading for one year.
Caring for an artificial orchid
Dust the flowers and leaves every few weeks with a soft, dry brush or cloth. If an orchid needs more, wipe the leaves and petals gently with a slightly damp cloth and let them dry, but don't soak or submerge the plant. Our artificial plant care guide has more detail.
